9 considerations for success on the internet
Based on the experience that
we have built up over the years, endorsed by the success
of websites such as InfoJobs.net and Softonic.com, we
have identified 9 factors that are conducive to the
success of an online business. We call those factors
the 9 considerations for success on the internet.
Each of the considerations covers a key aspect that, if present to a medium or high degree, will theoretically make an idea a likely SUCCESS ON THE INTERNET, with a reasonably low level of effort and risk.
| 1-
Self support |
| A business is self-supporting if it acquires more value whenever it is used by a user; in other words, if you have a ?virtual staff? that will put in many hours of work for you, contributing value to your business without costing you anything in exchange. |
| 2-
Motivación |
| Are users highly motivated to obtain what you have to offer? That may not be the case, if they are able to come by something similar in many other places. The greater their motivation, the more they will be prepared to pay and the more trouble they will be prepared to go to for the service (filling in lengthy forms that are of the essence for you, for example). |
| 3-
Profitable gratitude |
| Recommendation is tremendously important on the internet. It is therefore vital to form bonds and generate gratitude, as they will lead to endorsement. Customers who are satisfied or, better yet, pleasantly surprised will mention you to others, with an invaluable proliferative effect, generating traffic for you in an efficient, ongoing manner. |
| 4-
Sustainability |
| Do you have economies based on scale, networks or loyalty? Network economies are of proven usefulness on the internet and are achieved when your user receives greater value as the number of users of your service rises. If you have none of the aforementioned economies, your project, despite being established, could find itself vulnerable in the future to new competitors with a greater business or financial capacity, or more renown or experience in the sector. |
| 5-
Killer application |
| Could your project come to eliminate similar competing offline services when its market share reaches a certain level? There are some services and concepts on the internet which, if they succeed in soaking up a given percentage of their market, are able to place those who continue to use similar traditional services at a clear disadvantage, leaving them with no option but to switch to using online equivalents. |
| 6-
Innovation |
| Do you feel that your business idea is a notable improvement on something that already exists in the ?real world?? Better still, does it involve a service, function or form of customisation that was previously unthinkable? |
| 7-
Elimination of friction |
| Does your business take full advantage of anything that costs much less (in terms of time and money) in the ?virtual world? than in the ?real world?? |
| 8-
Generation of know-how |
| Have you thought about the degree to which your business will generate knowledge from which it will be possible to benefit in the future? The greater the level of know-how produced, the more it will contribute to the development of your future projects and create barriers to market entry for your competitors. |
| 9-
Customisation |
| Do you reap the full benefits of the opportunities for SEGMENTATION presented by the internet? The ability to offer each user a service that is designed for and adapted to them is one of the great possibilities that the internet opens up. |
